MARION E. LAMY
Marion E. Lamy, of Alpena and Harbor Springs, went to heaven on Nov. 8 2022. Marion was born on Aug. 9, 1927, the daughter of Raymond and Ellen Barr (Johnson). She was a devout Christian, loving wife and mother, and a friend to all the people she met in her life.
Marion met the love of her life, James C. Lamy, in Roscommon, Michigan in 1949 and were married June 17, 1950. They shared a passion for the outdoors, camping, canoeing, and hiking together during their courtship and on their honeymoon. This continued throughout their lives as they traveled the country, sailed the Great Lakes, and attended elderhostels.
Marion retired from the Alpena Public Schools where she worked as a librarian. She loved people and was active in the Tray Club (past president), Alpena Golf Club (past champion), and various other civic clubs in Alpena. She volunteered at the Friendship Room at St. Bernard’s Church and the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, Marion joyfully served in many capacities; elder, choir, Women’s Association, mission work, and Free Clinic volunteer, always stepping up to help wherever there was a need. She was an accomplished seamstress making clothes and unique Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. In addition, she made many of the banners displayed on religious holidays at First Presbyterian Church.
Funny and loving, Marion endeared herself to many by her quick wit and ability to find the best in every situation and person she met. Her love of the outdoors never waning, she cherished hikes to the Four Mile Dam, canoe trips, and ski trips to Colorado, especially if her children and grandchildren were along. They remember her as rugged, loving, and an incredible force of nature.
Marion is survived by three children; David (Diane) Lamy of Alpena, Jon (Lori) of Iron Mountain, and Laurie (Jim) Ford of Harbor Springs, seven grandchildren; Justin Lamy, Danielle (Eamon) Tougias, Ben Lamy, Kate Lamy, Riley (Kate) Ford, Connor Ford, and Emily Ford, and one great-grandchild, Isla Tougias. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim and brothers Arthur Barr and Steve Barr.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Alpena, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan, Fletcher Library, or Alpena (MyMichigan) Hospital.
