LAURA LEE GUNDERMAN

Laura Lee Gunderman, 50, of Alpena, died Nov. 24, 2022 at her group home with her family by her side. She is survived by her brother Ron (Judy) Gunderman of Alpena, and her twin sister, Elizabeth Gunderman Miller of Midland. As well as her nieces and nephews; Emma, Axel, Sarah, Brian, Carson, Kaitlyn, Landen, and Jonah.

Laura was born July 31, 1972 in Lansing, Michigan to Wayne and Donna (Preuss) Gunderman. They were not expecting twins on that day, let alone a baby that was diagnosed with Down Syndrome but they dedicated their lives to give her the best life possible. Laura attended Lincoln school in Grand Rapids for their early intervention program and also became an excellent swimmer there as well. In 1986, the family moved to Alpena where she attended Pied Piper school and graduated at age 26.

Laura was part of a family and community that loved and supported her unconditionally. She touched the lives of all who met her and she was a friend to everyone. She was involved in Special Olympics over the years and was a consumer through Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health. She loved being involved in all of her activities and jobs that NEMCMH provided.

The family would like to give special recognition to all of the wonderful staff at Cambridge group home who went above and beyond to give Laura the love and care she deserved during the last couple years of her life. They are true angels. As well as her hospice nurse, Julie. We are forever grateful.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, R. Wayne and Donna J. Gunderman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan or NEMCMH.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022 at McWilliams Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m.
