DUANE W. CARPENTER
Duane W. Carpenter, 83, of Alpena passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Duane William Carpenter was born in Grand Marais, Michigan to the late Donald and Marjorie (Kettering) Carpenter and served in the United States Army from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1964. Duane worked as a commercial fisherman until he moved to Alpena to begin working at Abitti in 1968 and retired in 2001. On Dec. 24, 1970, he married Phyllis Sharp VanNatter and took on the role of stepfather to her four children. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2010.
Surviving are three daughters, Joy Woods, Bonnie (Harvey) McEachern, Lori (Tom) Isaacs; four grandchildren, Tony McEachern, Russell (Tracy) Warren, Shannon (Armando) Ruiz, Jeremy (Sam) VanNatter; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Donna Baker, Marie Grove; many nieces, nephews and special friend Carole Beland.
Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by son, Russell VanNatter and his sister, Phyllis Smith.
Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Leslie Nye officiating followed by military honors by the VFW Alpena Post 2496.
