PHYLLIS ANN (MARCINIAK) GLAZIER
Phyllis Ann (Marciniak) Glazier was born into eternal life on July 27, 2022. She leaves behind a legacy of love and caring. Phyllis was born in Alpena, Michigan on May 4, 1929, to Wladyslaw and Martha (Couture) Marciniak.
She was the youngest in the family and the peacemaker among her siblings.
When her father was sheriff when they lived in the upstairs of the old jail on River Street.
After graduation from high school, she was employed as an inspector at the Garment Factory. Later she had the opportunity to attend nursing school in Traverse City. She was president of her Practical Nursing class and attended classes in the basement of the Traverse City Asylum. Upon returning to Alpena, she met Jack Glazier, they were married in 1950 and had five children. Phyllis was a patient, kind, and nurturing mother, with a song in her heart. After the children were grown, she returned to nursing at Alpena General Hospital and was the first employee to work in the new Oxygen Therapy Department. Jack and Phyllis purchased a farm in Leer where she enjoyed hunting, gardening, and snowmobiling. She also enjoyed hosting hobo dinners for family and friends. Phyllis took pleasure in doing family history, and traveled to her Couture ancestral village in Gaspe, Quebec. The old ancestral home was occupied by a second cousin. She completed two family history books, and years later traveled to Rome, Italy. In 2010 Phyllis sold the large family home and moved to an apartment at Luther Manor, where she made many new friends and enjoyed life.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, RoseMarie (David) Guthrie, son Tom (Lisa) Glazier, daughters-in-law, Michelle (Jerry Kahn) Glazier, and Judy Gleason, her grandchildren Sara Guthrie, James Glazier, Stephanie Glazier, Morgan Glazier, Timothy (Shelly) Glazier, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons John and William, her daughter MaryJane, her grandchildren, Tonia (Glazier) LaPine, Brian Glazier, Michael Guthrie, and all her Marciniak siblings, Ruth (Wilson), Roy, Roland, Rhea (Harbson), Richard, Jeanne (Marquis), Betty (MacArthur), and infant brother John.
To celebrate Phyllis’s life there will be a memorial mass at St. Anne Catholic Church on August 27, 2022, at 11 am. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Arrangements have been entrusted with McWilliams Funeral Home.
