JAMES RICHARD GROHOWSKI

James Richard Grohowski, 87, of Alpena passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at his home.

James was born on Aug. 5, 1934, to the late Michael and Pelagia (Buza) Grohowski in Rogers City. He graduated with the class of 1952 from Rogers City High School. He married Patricia Kelley on June 2, 1956. They celebrated their 66th anniversary recently. Jim was employed at the Besser Company in Alpena for 44.5 years.

Jim was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a past member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed camping, golfing, Red Wing hockey, and Detroit Tigers baseball. He was known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed taking his sons deer hunting, but most importantly was his family.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; six children, James (Sue) Grohowski, Kerrie (Mark) Lee, Kris (Sue) Grohowski, Kelly (Howard Bixel) Powell, Colleen Helsom, Rae Lynn (Mark) Nowak; 11 grandchildren, Jessica (Daniel) Olsen, Jennifer Hall, Mary (Zack) Young, Jon Grohowski, Jason Grohowski, Nicholas Washburn, Hali Washburn, Courtney Grohowski, Ben Nowak, Alex Nowak, Jordyn Nowak; nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Max and Lilith Olsen, Mya and Parker Hall, Ethen and Emma Young, Brodyn and Aurora Barnett; brother, Edward Grohowski; sister, Virginia Conley; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Grohowski was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Grohowski; brother, Gerald Grohowski and a sister Eleanor Wirgau.

Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon with the Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
