LORI LEE VANDENBERGE

Lori was born Dec. 16, 1959, in Alpena to Sandy and Mary McDonald. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1978 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in social work from Madonna University. Lori worked at District Health Department #4 as a social worker for over 25 years. On May 6, 2000, she married Gillis “Hap” VandenBerge. Lori was a very crafty person, there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do with a needle and thread. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, shopping, traveling, gardening, and to everyone else’s delight was an excellent cook. Lori was a life-long member of Grace Episcopal Church in Long Rapids.

Lori is survived by her husband, Hap, two children, Jessica (Rob) Nelson, and David Matthes (fiancee Amanda), her mother, Mary McDonald, 3 siblings, Cathy (Bill) Hughes, Sherrie (Patrick) O’Brien, and Allen McDonald, five grandchildren, Kylie, James, Teddy, Aiden, and Jayden, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Copper. She was preceded by her father, Sandy McDonald.

Family will receive friends at Grace Episcopal Church on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Karen Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Presque Isle Twp. Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Grace Episcopal Church. Arrangements have been entrusted with McWilliams Funeral Home.
