JAY THORNE MARTINDALE

Jay Thorne Martindale, 75, died unexpectedly June 2, 2022 at Henry Ford hospital in Jackson, Michigan. Born Sept. 13, 1946 in Alpena, Michigan, he is the son of Roger and Jean (Thorne) Martindale.

Jay graduated from Alpena High School in 1964, where he then attended Kemper Military School. Following graduation, Jay enlisted in the Army and became a proud member of the 82nd Airborne until his tour was up. After his service, Jay returned to Alpena, Michigan where he met the love of his life Michelle Lynn Ferguson. Smitten with love, they married Aug. 25, 1973 and moved to Marquette, Michigan where he attended Northern Michigan and received his B.A. in science in 1974. Jay was a loyal member of Big Brother/Sisters of America, American legion, and the VFW. He was: 1980 – Big Brother of the Year Sanilac County, 1981 Commander of the Year Sanilac County, 1981 Commander of the Year, 10th District, V.F.W., 1985 Teacher of the Year, Marlette Junior High.

Jay and Michelle celebrated 48 years of marriage. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Martindale and a brother John Martindale. Surviving in addition to his wife Michelle (Ferguson) Martindale, son Bartley Martindale of Jackson; son Reed Martindale and Katelyn of Jackson; daughter Jaymi Martindale of Jackson, as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Northeast Missionary Church 903 Virginia St, Jackson Michigan, 49203. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post #29 at 3200 Lansing Avenue to celebrate Jay T. Martindale. In Lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Jay Martindale Memorial Fund.
