RUTH J. OHMART

Ruth was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Steve and Ruth Jackson. She was raised in North Tonawanda, New York until she moved to Michigan to attend Eastern Michigan University. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in education, and taught in the Detroit area for many years, prior to traveling the world and eventually making Alpena her home for over 50 years. Ruth was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was active in the choir and shared her gift for song. Ruth was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends creating many lasting memories.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Mike) Kiefer, and Jennifer (Matt) Baker, her granddaughter, Taylor Baker, and her sibling, Susan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Steve.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Alpena on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 11 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior to the service with the Rev. John Shipman officiating.
