KENNETH J. ILSLEY

Kenneth J. Ilsley, 85 of Alpena passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit.

Ken was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on March 3, 1937, to the late Ned and Evelyn (Mills) Ilsley. He served in the United States Army, 2nd Armored Division. On Oct. 10, 1959, he married Margaret ‘Marge’ Shupert. Ken retired from the Alpena News after 45 years. He enjoyed woodworking, carving, hunting as a member of the 8 Point Club, fishing, and being outdoors.

Ken was a former Blue Line Hockey Club president, past member of the Alpena Sports Booster Club, Alpena Hockey Association Coach, and worked many years at the St. Bernard soup kitchen. He was a member of St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish and past member of the church council under Fr. Isadore Mikulski.

Surviving are his wife, Marge; three sons, Matthew (Karen) Ilsley, Blaise (Jo-Anne) Ilsley, Stuart (Michelle) Ilsley; four grandchildren, Austin (Lacie) Ilsley, Paige (Josh) Noble, and Cameron Ilsley, step-grandson, Benjamin Matteson; great-grandchildren, Aris, Lillian, Genevieve; brother, Gary Ilsley; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ilsley was preceded in death by four brothers, Dale (Anne) Ilsley, Robert Ilsley, Donald Ilsley, Gerald (Phyllis) Ilsley; sister-in-law, Margo Ilsley; nephews, James and Thomas Ilsley; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vivian and Frank Shupert.

Memorial visitation will take place at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon with the Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating. Cremation arrangements have been made by the Bannan Funeral Home.

Inurnment: Holy Cross Cemetery
