DALE LEO COMPEAU SR.
Dale Leo Compeau Sr., a long time resident of Elsie, and native of Alpena, Michigan died on April 17, 2022 at the age of 83.
Dale was born in Herron, Michigan on Aug. 29, 1938, the son of Oscar and Lydia Kaiser Compeau. On July 26, 1958 he married Betty Jean Woodell and they made their home in Elsie for over 55 years. Dale worked as a heavy equipment operator with Reed & Noyce, later TR Noyce, and retired from United Excavating. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 324 for over 60 years.
At home Dale enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working his tractor, tending to his gardens, and canning vegetables, sauerkraut, and salsa. He loved watching baseball, especially his Detroit Tigers, hanging out with friends, hunting, and spending time with the Big Bear Hunting Club in Hillman.
In addition to Betty, his beloved wife of over 63 years, he is survived by his children, Cheryl and Bob Parks, Ronald and Teri Compeau, and Dena and Mike Arens; daughter-in-law, Tina Compeau; grandchildren, Jody Compeau, Casey Jo Compeau and Dave, Kris and Sara Perrin, Christopher and Kristen Parks, Katie and Connor Gossett, Jeff and Oneida Compeau, Ronald Compeau Jr. and Chelsea, Jacob Compeau and Arica; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Mae Manning; sisters-in-law, Susan Compeau and Helen (the late Bob) Whitehead, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dale Compeau Jr., sister, Patricia and Gordon Morey, brothers, Vernon and Warren Compeau, and brother-in-law, Edward & Diane Woodell.
A Memorial Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Thursday, April 21, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating.
