MARK KEITH McCOMB
Mark Keith McComb, 48, of Oakland Township, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in the loving arms of his wife. Intensely intelligent, quick-witted, and kind, Mark was calm and caring in every situation. He was not at all prideful, except when it came to his children whom he absolutely and unequivocally adored.
Visitation is 3 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2022, at Muir Funeral Home, 296 S. Main St. in Romeo with a prayer service at 7 p.m. when friends also will be invited to share their memories of Mark. The funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022, at St. Kieran Catholic Church, 53600 Mound Road in Shelby Township, Michigan, with visitation starting 30 minutes before the service. A luncheon will follow at Shelby Gardens, 50265 Van Dyke Ave. in Shelby Township.
Mark was born May 2, 1973, the son of Keith and Gloria (Bower) McComb. He and his sister, Michelle, were raised in Greenville, Michigan, in a home built by their father and Uncle Russell in Leland Estates, a neighborhood they built and developed.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Central Michigan University. While there, he met and first courted his bride-to-be, Dawn Wisniewski. Never one for the bar scene or the like, they met online (even though that type of thing was unusual back then). They married Sept. 5, 1998, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rogers City a few months after Dawn graduated.
They made their home in the metro Detroit area and Mark began building his career, starting first as a Y2K correction programmer, but always making a point to learn more and take on the projects others tried to avoid. He moved from being a mainframe developer to specialty developer, including sql server and .Net programming … although most of us (except his son) have even the slightest clue what that means. He worked as a contractor for Ford Motor Company with Syntel, CIBER and for the last 13 years with TEKsystems, which showed wonderful compassion and support throughout his illness.
Mark and Dawn were blessed with three children, Harrison, 20; Danielle, 17; and Riley, 15. They are so much like their father, each in their own way. Harrison most obviously so, because he looks so much like his dad and is following in his techie footsteps. In Danielle, there is his kindness, willingness to accept others without judgment, and his deep sense of justice. Riley seems to be the one who got the most of his height, but even more so she has his ability to see and know what is needed, care for others, and be the rock for everyone around her.
In 2012, they moved to Oakland Township and discovered neighbors and formed friendships as strong and dependable as their family. Here, they made some of their best family memories, nights filled with laughter, movies outside on summer nights, and trips to Disney.
Mark also loved trivia, Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars, Legos, and reading. He was always eager to try new foods and new experiences. He was there for his family in all ways and always.
Mark fought primary sclerosing cholangitis and its side effects for 20 years. He fought every step of the way. Diabetic and slowly sinking deeper into liver and kidney failure, he stayed too well for too long to get the double transplant he needed to extend his life. His health allowed bile duct cancer to form and steal his chance at a transplant. He fought so hard and went through so much to be here with us as long as he was. None of us wanted to say goodbye, but we are comforted knowing he doesn’t have to endure anymore.
He is survived by his wife Dawn and children Harrison, Danielle, and Riley, all of Oakland Township; mother Gloria McComb and sister Michelle McComb, both of Greenville; father- and mother-in-law Daniel and Cathy Wisniewski of Rogers City; brothers-in-law Eric (Marjory) Wisniewski of Flint and Bradley (Christine) Wisniewski of Byron Center; nephews and nieces Javon, Samantha, Evelina, and Mason; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Keith McComb.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to help cover the cost of medical and funeral expenses or the children’s education through Muir Funeral Home, 296 S. Main St., Romeo, Michigan, 48065.
