WILLIAM EDWARD BRILEY SR.

William Edward Briley, Sr., age 69, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The son of Keith Lynn & Donna Jeanne (Coleman) Briley, he was born on Jan. 29, 1952 in Alpena, Michigan.

William was self-employed, and enjoyed fishing and hunting — from deer to small game to mushrooms. He helped coach little league and t-ball in Atlanta, Michigan. He was an active member of Light of Hope Clubhouse, and The Bay View Center in Alpena both from the time of being founded until 2018. He was a much loved member known for his sense of humor and fun sociable personality. In 2013 he earned member of the year at Light of Hope Clubhouse. He was a champion pool player and enjoyed bowling with his brother and sister. He loved to play basketball and watch the Detroit Tigers and Pistons.

Surviving are his children, Dawn and Anthony ‘Tony’ Kroll of Edmore, William E. Briley, Jr. of Texas, and Jonathon R. ‘Jonnie’ Briley of Alpena; as well as a daughter he finally met in April of 2021, Beckie (Kent) Wing of Cadillac; seven grandchildren, Christopher Briley of Texas, Apryl (Kyle) Briley of Lansing, Lance Corporal Luke Kroll serving with the U.S. Marine Corps, Elsie Kroll and Owen Kroll, both of Edmore, Tessi and Michelle of Texas, and two more granddaughters that he just met, Caitlan and Madisyn of Cadillac, and two grandsons that he hoped to meet someday, Roswell and Dustin… making eleven total grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, Ryleigh of Cadillac; three sisters, Patti (Patrick) Jones of Lachine, Bette Simonye of Lachine, Mary (Mark) Peplinski of Ingalls, Kansas; two brothers, Ronald (Diana) Paul of Hillman and James Paul of Hillman; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith Lynn Briley and Donna Jeanne Coleman Briley Paul Potter; two brothers, Gerald L. Briley and David L Briley; and a brother-in-law, Bruce Simonye.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 at the Alpena Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4029 U.S .23 South, Alpena, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be at Briley Township Cemetery in Atlanta, Michigan. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a memory by taking a child fishing.
