ROBERT A. LYNGOS

Robert A. Lyngos, age 77, passed away Nov. 8 2021 in Cumming, Georgia.

He was born in Alpena to the late Henry and Ida Lyngos and spent his early life in Gilwanigan on the shore of Lake Winyah, later moving with his parents to Gilchrist, Oregon, returning to Michigan to finish his college education. Bob spent many years as a teacher at Alpena High School where he had a positive influence on many students.

Bob was a lover of birds and animals, miniature schnauzers in particular, and interested in collecting and appraising antiques. He was well versed in the colorful history of Alpena and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of its people and places during his association with the Special Collections and Archives department at the George N. Fletcher Alpena County Library, and as a board member of the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan.

He is survived by his brother Henry (Melissa) Lyngos, three nieces, Leisha (Les) Murphy, Lisa Lyngos (Bill Turrentine), and Amy Lyngos (Hector Lopez), and a grandniece, Lindsay Lyngos. He was preceded in death by his nephew Christopher Lyngos.

A memorial service is planned next spring at his final resting place Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
