JEAN (JANE) R. BAKER

Jean (Jane) R. Baker, age 96, a lifelong resident of Herron, Michigan passed away peacefully at Assisted Living in The Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea, Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021.

On Nov. 30, 1924, Jean was born to the late Florence and William Kaiser in Herron, Michigan. She married Louis Baker on May 15, 1943, in Herron, Michigan at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. They were blessed with two children and 76 years of marriage. Jean worked at the Ypsilanti Bomber Plant before Louis joined the US Navy. They moved to the Naval Air Base at Corpus Christi, Texas and lived there until the end of World War II. Jean and Louis returned to Herron and bought their farm in 1946, where they raised crops and horses. Jean was a lifelong member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and had a strong Christian faith. Jean worked doing taxes for many years and volunteered to do taxes for seniors. She also worked on the Wilson Township Property Tax Board of Review, the Wilson Township election, and the horse shows at the Alpena County Fair. She loved bowling and golfing. She and Louis loved travelling and spending time with their children, their spouses, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean and Louis moved to the Chelsea Retirement Community in July 2017 to be closer to their children.

Jean is survived by her daughter, DeeAnn (Douglas) Bauer of Troy, Michigan, her daughter-in-law, Gloria Baker (Wayne) of Manchester, Michigan, her granddaughters: Amy (Scott) Baker-Young of Webberville, Michigan, Noelle Baker (Jeff Showiak) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, her great-granddaughters: Celeste and Daphne Baker, her sister, Barbara Voll of Winter Haven, Florida, and exchange student daughter, Dorothy (Karnik Shishmanian) Rouse of Maple Ridge, British Columbia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Baker, her son, Wayne Baker, her brothers: Arthur, Robert, William, Earl, Edward, Roy, and Lee (all Kaiser), and her sister, Ida June Paulick.

There will be no public visitation. A private service for immediate family will be held at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home with Fr. Tyler Bischoff officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. The service may be viewed at karpushuntercares.com starting Nov. 28, 2021. Condolences may be made on the website for the family at any time.
