FLORENCE NEUMANN

NEUMANN, Florence, 98, of Alpena, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021 at MediLodge of Alpena.

Florence Zarske was born Jan. 24, 1923 in Alpena, Michigan to Gustav and Pauline (Johnson) Zarske and has been a life-long resident of the Alpena area. She attended a small one room school in Herron and went into the working world after grade school. She married Leslie H. Neumann on Oct. 5, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alpena. He preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 2014. Florence worked as a cook at Immanuel Lutheran School. She enjoyed quilting at Immanuel Lutheran Church and over the years made special “Michigan Map” quilts for gifts to be given to Lutheran Churches in Latvia and Poland. These unique quilts were given as gifts to the Lutheran Church her son, Dennis, visited on mission trips teaching English as a second Language. She loved the time spent cooking at the Neumann Deer Hunting Camp at North Point and attending family outings at the Zarske farms in Herron. After Florence retired from the position as head cook at Immanuel Lutheran School, she became a foster grandparent.

Surviving are three sons; Jerry W. Neumann, Dennis H. (Beverly) Neumann, Randy L. (Jean) Neumann all of Alpena, 11 grandchildren, Timothy L. Neumann, Deborah K. Neumann, Katie Witt, Jason Neumann, Jessica Neumann, Patricia A. Wisniewski, Steven R. Neumann, Connie S. Cadarette, Allan Emery Neumann, Brenda Cadarette, Christopher Neumann, 17 great-grandchildren: Kathleen, Kristina, Kimberly, Brandon, Judah, Avalyn Grace, Ryan, Justin, Russell, Jeremiah, Shawna, Aimee, Tracy, Allan, Dylan, Tyler, Tanner, Nathaniel, Peter, eight great-great grandchildren; Landon, Liam, Claire, Rylie, Izzy, Briley, Luke and Ryker. Also surviving are a sister, Irma Burzich of Alpena. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Neumann, two sisters, Ester Koenig, Lucille Zarske and three brothers, Arnie, Carl and Ron Zarske.

Florence Neumann is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family and friends will gather on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021 from 2-8 p.m. and on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am with the Rev. James Erickson officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church HVAC Memorial Fund.
