On Saturday, Aug. 14, a Celebration of Joseph Peter Wojda Jr.’s life will be held from 12-4 p.m. at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes Holt Chapel, 5035 Holt Rd, Holt, Michigan, 48842.

For 15 years, our Dad, Joseph Wojda, was the head girls’ varsity basketball coach for J.W. Sexton High School. My dad loved and played all sports, but took a special interest in girls’ basketball. He would often talk about how they were not given the same treatment as men’s sports as far as equipment and gear. He spent years fundraising for his team to fill the gap.

Another passion my Dad had was fundraising for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, where he raised over $20,000 during his 18-year battle with Hodgkin’s-Lymphoma. Even though there has yet to be a cure, I know my Dad would be so proud of our efforts to continue to support an organization that aims to prevent the loss and suffering of loved ones due to this disease. Before my dad passed on April 24, 2021, he said, “I feel like I have so much more to do in this lifetime.” In honor of my Dad, the “Joseph Peter Wojda Jr. Foundation” was created to continue his fight, both in cancer and on the court. My Dad always had many passions in life, but helping others truly brought him joy above all.
