CHESTER J. SZYMANSKI

“Chet”

Chester Szymanski, 98, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at Besser Senior Living Community on Aug. 17, 2021.

Chester was born on May 14, 1923 to the late Felix and Martha (Kieliszewski) Szymanski in Long Rapids Township. On May 15, 1954, he married Ann E. Lindsay at St. Ignatius Church in Rogers City, Michigan. She preceded him in death on September 21, 1970.

Chester served in the U.S.Army in World War II, the 44th Division, 217 Field Artillery Battalion. During his service he was in Austria, Germany, and France. He traveled to many of his Army reunions and hosted the 2008 reunion in Alpena. Chester retired in 1990 from the U.S. Postal Service after 42 years as a rural route carrier. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

He is survived by son, Tom (Amy Daniell) Syzmanski of Richmond, Virginia, granddaughter, Lindsay Ann Szymanski of Clinton Township, daughter-in-law, Cynthia Harter of Grand Rapids, sister, Doris Stafford and brother, Daniel (Jeanne) Szymanski, both of Alpena, several nieces and nephews, and friends from the “Alpena Old Folks Club.” He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Szymanski, and brothers Jim and Richard.

Chester has been taken from Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation per his wishes. Memorial Visitation will be Monday, August 23, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 11 a.m. until the 12 p.m. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Father Tyler Bischoff officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by VFW Post #2496 immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic School or Friend’s Choice.
