MICHAEL (MIKE) LOZON
Michael (Mike) Lozon 73, passed away at his home on 7/2/2021 in Holland, Michigan after a five- month courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer – Glioblastoma. He was born in Grand Haven, Michigan on May 17, 1948 to Howard and Elsie Lozon who preceded him in death. He graduated from Alpena High School and received an Associate’s degree from Alpena Community College. He attended Central Michigan University for three years and after some unexpected events returned to Alpena in 1971 and found employment at The Alpena News, which enhanced his decision to return to CMU in 1976 and earn his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. After working for several SW Michigan newspapers, his drive led him to become an independent contractor documenting the histories of local businesses and personal memoirs of local entrepreneurs. He authored 12 historical books. His passion for photography surfaced in later years and he spent countless hours documenting Ottawa County Parks, Tulip Time Festival, The Farmers Market, and the spirit of Holland to name a few. He truly fulfilled his lifelong dreams.
He is survived by his wife Janice of 39 years, daughter Mandy (Mike) Stahl by his first marriage, sister Judy Shilts, of South Bend, Indiana, brother Ron (Janet) Lozon, of Alpena as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
May his life and legacy live on through his authored books, his captivating photography and all those deeply touched through mentoring, friendships, and his love of family.
