Marjorie Ann Matzke, 89, of Alpena passed away peacefully Sunday, June 20, 2021.

Marjorie was born on June 24, 1931 in Alpena to the late Oliver and Victoria (Kierst) LaBarge. She was a life-long resident of the area having graduated from St. Anne’s. Marjorie was a strong willed, independent woman who loved to travel, tending to her garden, swimming, and enjoyed decorating for all the holidays. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and becoming a great-great grandmother. Marjorie was known to be quite the practical joker, in fact there was always hesitation when opening a gift from her at Christmas. One never knew what to expect. She was a life-long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Marjorie is survived by her four children, Terry (Pat) Matzke, Rick Matzke, Karen (Randy) Sommerville, Kim (Frank) Burns, eight grandchildren, Brian (Abby) Matzke, Trisha (Paul) Girard, Janelle (Ken) Werda, Michelle (John) Courech, Mary Ann Matzke, Amber Sommerville, Angela (Byron) DeVries, and Travis Sommerville, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and her sister, Loretta Wallace. She was preceded in death by her stillborn son Delbert, and her sister, Betty Mischley.

Marjorie has been taken for cremation with a private graveside service to take place. Arrangements have been entrusted with McWilliams Funeral Home.
