MAE L. VAPPIE

Mae L. Vappie passed away on April 5, 2021 at MediLodge of Green View in Alpena, Michigan. Mae was born in 1921 to Warmoth C. and Beulah L. (Bronson) Vappie in Baldwin, St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. She attended and graduated from high school in Franklin, Louisiana. Mae told us that her two brothers, Earl and Norflet, would catch alligators to sell their meat! Shortly after World War II, she and her brother Earl moved to Chicago, Illinois where she lived until 2017. Mae and Earl were eventually joined in Chicago by brother Norflet and sisters Madge, Sherry and Joyce (although all of them did not permanently stay in Chicago). Mae worked for many years at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where she retired in 1987. She was a long-time member of Christ the Mediator Lutheran Church in Chicago. In 2017, she moved to Alpena, Michigan to be with daughter Anne (Gary) Moody.

Mae was a member of a wonderful family who she loved and who loved her back! She is survived by her daughter Anne (Gary) Moody, daughter-in-law Brenda Vappie, sisters Madge Brewer and Sherry Anderson, granddaughter Kim (Richard Pederson) Vappie, grandson Anthony (Maggie) Vappie, great-grandson Gavin Pederson, and great-step-granddaughters Olivia and Claudia Czerepko. She is also survived by MANY nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in many places!

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Warmoth and Beulah Vappie, son Reginald Vappie, brothers Earl and Norflet Vappie, sister Joyce Ford, brothers-in-law Walter Brewer and Roy Anderson, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She has been taken to the Bannan Funeral Home for cremation and will be interred in Holy Cross Cemetery in Alpena, Michigan.

Many thanks to all of the HEROES at MediLodge-Green View who took care of her these past few years! Also, thanks to the HEROES at Hospice of Michigan who helped her transition to her new life comfortably and peacefully!
