DAVID JOHN TOLIN

David John Tolin, 75, of Alpena, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother that will be dearly missed. David was born on Jan. 27, 1946 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.

Shortly after graduating from Alpena High School in 1965, David enlisted with the United States Coast Guard where he proudly served his country for four years. David was also very proud of the fact that he volunteered to serve in Vietnam. He was stationed in Hawaii and fulfilled all his duties during the days, then went on in the evenings performing as a musician. Music was not only his passion but eventually became his career. David loved travelling all over the United States playing his bass guitar for various bands and artists. Some of the more well-known artists that he played with were, Sonny & Cher, The Coasters, and Jan & Dean. David also took great pride in being a long-time loyal Detroit Tigers fan.

On Nov. 18, 1984 David married the love of his life Julia Phillips in Florida. They were married and raised a family for 36 years until Julia preceded him in death in 2020.

David leaves behind three children, Sherri (Dan) Doll of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Daniel Tolin of Traverse City, Michigan, and James Tolin of Alpena, two stepchildren, Heather Hamby of Alpena, Michigan, and Stephanie Mellendez of Camp Verde, Arizona, 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a brother, John (Lynda) Tolin of Alpena, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father John Fantozzi, and parents James and Shirley (Thompson) Tolin.
