SANDRA L. CHAFFIN

Sandra L. Chaffin passed away Feb. 5, 2021 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida at the age of 83.

Sandra was born Sept. 7, 1937 in Flint, Michigan to Lawrence and Pauline (Appleman) Burt. In 1948 the family moved to Alpena, Michigan and to Pontiac, Illinois in 1954 where she graduated from high school. She was a graduate of Michigan State University.

She married Richard Harlan in 1965 they had two children, Michael and Kathryn. She married William Chaffin in 1996 and subsequently resided in Fenton, Michigan. They retired to Lake Suzy, Florida in 2015.

Sandra earned the reputation as ” the sweetest woman I know; everyone loves Aunt Sandra.” Throughout her life , as both an active vital member of PEO and Sweet Adeline’s fulfilling her role as a humanitarian and vocalist.

Her hobbies included, but were not limited to sewing, cooking, gardening, and international travel. She had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed being a member of the Thumb Area Sweet Adelines and Spirit of Detroit Choruses for over 20 years. It was a big part of her life and she had many good friends from her association.

She was a one-of-a-kind person always with a smile and a helping hand to anyone who needed help. She was a consummate hostess and truly the life of the party. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her enormous .extended family

She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Burt and is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, William Chaffin, four children, Michael Harlan, Kathryn Harlan, Abigail (Chaffin) Galloway, and Joshua Chaffin, seven grandchildren, and her sister, Sally Sutton.

Her final resting place will be Evergreen Cemetery in Alpena, Michigan. Donations in lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to:
