NANCY APSEY

March 20, 1936-January 15, 2021

Nancy was born in Bay City, Michigan to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Knight. She died at home in Leesburg, Florida under the hospice care of her husband, Jim.

Nancy graduated from Alpena High School in 1954. In August 1955, she married her sweetheart of four years in their hometown of Lincoln, Michigan. In May 1956, Nancy and Jim were the first married couple to receive their Associate Degrees from Alpena Community College. At age 20, she began her 35-year elementary school teaching career near Ann Arbor, using her provisional Michigan teaching certificate from ACC. After teaching three years, she entered Eastern Michigan University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in 1960, and later her Masters Degree. She then taught for 11 years at Dearborn Heights and finished her distinguished teaching career with 24 years in Alpena Public elementary schools until 1992.

Nancy and Jim enjoyed over 65 years of loving marriage and raised their two children together. Daughter, Janice, was born in 1957, graduated from AHS in 1977 and EMU in 1979. Janice Apsey died in 1983. Ronald graduated from AHS in 1980 and EMU in 1984. Ronald works at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Nancy cremains will be interred at her family plot in Gustin Township Cemetery and adjacent to her daughter, Janice, in Lincoln, Michigan. Nancy is survived by her loving husband Jim, son Ronald, sister, Beverly Palmer of Florida, and brothers, Herman Knight of Harrisville, and Harold Knight of East Tawas.
