CONNIE LYNN MAHALAK
Connie was born on March 3, 1943 in Saint Louis, Michigan and passed on Jan. 16, 2021 at Metamora, Michigan. Her father, Lewis Clare Gould and mother, Eva Ruth Gould owned a water well drilling business. Lewis took his family to Florida each winter and his daughter and son attended high school there until they returned to Houghton Lake in the spring.
Connie moved to Higgins Lake, Michigan and worked for the Gerrish-Higgins School Superintendent’s office as a secretary. She later served on the school board from 1978 to 1986. Connie married William J. Mahalak in 1977. Connie loved children, especially babies. They began a family and Connie also got a job as Elementary School Secretary where she worked for several years. Connie ran for the Township Clerk’s position and won the election. She thought that this job would allow her more time with her children and grandchildren that were beginning to arrive. This was not to be since the Township business grew and she spent a good deal of her time computerizing the Township records, etc.
Connie had improved the Township Clerk’s office operations at the cost of more hours of work on her own time. She had made a lot of friends, both children and adults, but in 1997 she retired from the Township to spend more time with what she called “the light of her life,” that is her family and especially children of the family and with her husband. She always introduced me to people as “My best friend and husband” which pleased me greatly, says Bill.
Connie passed on Jan. 16, 2021. She was best remembered for her smile and ability to make people laugh.

Grandchildren: Jessica Tjapkes, Allisa Hose, Lucy Mahalak, Liam Mahalak, Lily James Mahalak
Great-grandchildren: Cameron Tjapkes and Alexis Tjapkes
