WALTER ANDERSON

Walter “Andy” Anderson, 82, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed on Oct. 10, 2020 with his family at his side. He was born on Jan. 16, 1938 in Tyler, Minnesota to John and Olga Anderson.

After graduating from Russell High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He married Marilyn Peterson of Audubon, Iowa in 1962 and they enjoyed over 58 years of marriage.

While their family grew, Andy worked 42 years in the airline industry where he spent the majority of his career with Northwest/Delta as an Operations Manager. The family’s early years were spent in Alpena, Michigan. In 1989 Andy and Marilyn moved to Traverse City, Michigan where he was appreciated by their neighbors due to his friendly chats, helping families with seasonal chores, and being a good friend.

In his free time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, woodworking, hockey, reading, and working out at Centre Ice. Above all, he cherished time with his family. He was active and agile up until the end of his life, which was cut short due to complications from COVID-19. Andy will be remembered for being a kind and loving husband, father, and a friend to all.

His parents John and Olga, his son Todd, siblings Esther, Donald, Carl and Arnold preceded him in death.

Andy is survived by his wife Marilyn of Traverse City, daughter Becky (Durance) Paul of St. Ignace, son John (Jennifer) Anderson of Edmond, Oklahoma, daughter Darlene Weiland of Rochester, New York, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by siblings Norman, Marian and Merlin.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, the family asks that any memorials be sent to the Northern Michigan Chapter of Michigan Trout Unlimited at michigantu.org in honor of Andy Anderson.

We ask you to honor him by enjoying a water activity with a loved one. Andy would smile.
