GEORGE R. LUND

George R. Lund was born to Henry T. & Effie (Pake) Lund on Feb. 22, 1920. He was affectionately called Ole, a nod to his Norwegian heritage. With the exception of his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1941 where he proudly served on the U.S.S. Saratoga, he lived in Alpena until his retirement in ’85.

On Dec. 13, 1941 he married Phyllis Habermhel and they shared 61 years together until her passing in 2004. Ole is survived by four children: Michael (Carol) Lund, Timothy Lund, Christie (Gary) Rasche and Lisa Chambers. Grandchildren; Craig Lund, Travis (Catia) Lund and Jaymi Seeley and stepgrandchildren Nicole (Ron) Kahn Shedd, Aaron (Alice) Kahn, and great-grandchildren Kenny Lund, Olivia Seeley and Madison Seeley as well as several nieces and nephews.

In his younger years he worked in sales for various companies in Alpena until he took a position with Curtis Industries of Cleveland, Ohio. He covered most of Northern Michigan as an automotive and industrial sales rep until retiring after 30 years of service.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to Boots Worniak for her lifelong friendship and the companionship she and Ole enjoyed over the past several years.

For those wishing to make a contribution in George’s memory the family is suggesting the Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 124 E. Washington Ave., Alpena, Michigan, 49707. Due to the current health crisis there will be no service held at this time. McWilliams Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
