Betty J. Hawley, age 81, of Ossineke, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

On June 27, 1938, Betty was born in Alpena, Michigan to the late John and Elsie (Siewert) Swartzinski. She married William E. Hawley on Feb. 16, 1957; he preceded her in death on May 19, 1997. Betty was a cook for several years at the Thunder Bird, Bird’s Nest and JJ’s Pizza. She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and Women’s Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed spending her time with friends and family, watching her grandchildren play sports, and supporting Tigers Baseball by being a huge fan. She was active in the Huron Shores Little League where she coached a girls’ softball team to a State Championship.

She is survived by her three children: Bill Jr. (Sally) Hawley of Ossineke, Michigan; Audrey (Christopher) Forbush of Fenton, Michigan; and Brenda (Bill) Bonnee of Dafter, Michigan; one son-in-law: Bruce Anschuetz; seven grandchildren: Samantha Forbush, Nick Forbush, Ashlee Bonnee, Billy Bonnee, Zachary Hawley, Courtney (Dan) Huff, Jamie (Paul) Gohlke; four great-grandchildren: Avery, Gracelyn, Riley, and Blake; one brother: Warren (Janet) Swartzinski of Hubbard Lake, Michigan; one sister: Bernie (Mike) Harkins of Alpena, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by one daughter: Debra Anschuetz; one son: Earl Hawley; two brothers: Ed and Art Swartzinski.

Arrangements are being handled through the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home. Private family services were held by the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home.

Interment: St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Ossineke, Michigan

In lieu of flowers donations may be mailed to Huron Humane Society or St. Vincent DePaul in memory of Betty.
