BETTY JANE COLE

Betty Jane Cole (nee Bruning) was raised up to her Lord while surrounded by family on March 14, 2020. Betty was born to Ernest and Loretta Bruning on Dec. 17, 1929. She married William Cole on Feb. 17, 1950. Together they had eight children. During her 90 years upon this earth, Betty served as a governess in Grosse Pointe, a volunteer cafeteria worker at Immanuel Lutheran School and was a member of the Ladies Aid. Betty loved the country life — walking through the woods, working in her garden, caring for her animals and picking apples in her orchard. But her greatest accomplishment was being a devoted wife and loving mother. Her legacy will always be her dedication to God and as a Christian wife and mother, providing a faithful foundation for her family and empowering her children and grandchildren with a dedicated work ethic and love for family and her Lord. Betty’s care and needs were entrusted to the staff at MediLodge, having required residential care for the past 10 years. As such, she won the hearts of many. Despite her illness, Betty often had a smile on her face and would join anyone in song who was willing to sing with her. Her love for family, music, and her Lord will live in the hearts and memories of those who were lucky to know her. Betty is survived by her children: William Jr (Patti); Bruce; Kathy (Peter) Eades; Mark (Mary); Jeanne (Robert) Spencer; Peter (Karen) Cole; and Marcia (Earl) Martin; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest (Pep) Bruning; a plethora of nieces and nephews; and several brothers/sisters-in-law. She is preceded in death by her husband, William; a son, George; and several sisters and brothers. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memoriam may be made to Immanuel Lutheran School. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted with McWilliams Funeral Home.
