JOANNE KAYE SCHALK

Joanne Kaye Schalk, 63, of Alpena, died unexpectedly from surgical complications on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Joanne was born on March 29, 1956 to the late Richard and Carolyn (Powell) Schalk. She graduated from Hillman High School in 1974 and received her associate degree from Alpena Community College. Joanne worked in the banking business for 40 years as a mortgage loan processor, retiring in 2017.

Joanne was most proud of her nieces and nephews and their accomplishments. The little ones were the apple of her eye, she loved attending their T-ball and soccer games. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, crocheting, and making sure there was always fresh baked cookies. Joanne was an avid sports fan of her beloved Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Michigan. She enjoyed going to the farm in Hillman on weekends to spend time with her family.

Joanne will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her loving family, sister, Patty (Paul) Gressick; brother, Kim Schalk; nieces and nephews, Sarah (Corey) Morrison, Erin (Steven) Hintsala, Ryan Gressick, Kendra McMurphy, Travis Schalk, Adam Schalk; great-nephews and niece, Evyn, Owyn, Mason, Avery, Kamden; special cousins, Janet, Tim, Brooke & Makenna Grulke and Stephen Hunt.

Visitation will take place Sunday at St. John Lutheran Church, Royston from 2-8 p.m. and continue there Monday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jason Mandley officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
