BERNARD L. MOUSSEAU

Bernard L. Mousseau, age 91, of Ossineke, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

On Nov. 8, 1927, Bernard was born in Ossineke, Michigan to the late Joseph and Eva (McIlhargie) Mousseau. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bernard married Carol St. Charles on Feb. 4, 1956, at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Fr. Pelitier officiating. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2019. Bernard was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus where he achieved the rank of Fourth degree knight.

Bernard was an Officer in the Merchant Marines, piloting ships for 35 years. They hauled cargo through the Great Lakes and up the St. Lawrence Seaway. After retiring in 1983, Bernard turned his focus to the grandchildren, busily teaching life skills and “proper” nutrition. Bernie enjoyed playing cards with his buddies. He was kind, reliable, and available. Nothing in all his life could compete with his devotion to God and the Catholic Church. He was a very religious man.

Bernard is survived by his five children: Jeanne (Mike) Cornelius of Spruce, Michigan; David (Gina) Mousseau of Redmond, Washington; Ann (Dennis) McPherson of Elk Groove, California; Paul (Pam) Mousseau of Jacksonville, Florida, and Mary (John) Pierson of Gainsville, Virginia; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his sister in law Betty Mousseau.

He was preceded in death by four sisters: Vivian Santhony, Gloria Martin, Geraldine Walsh, and Eleanore Gabsdyl, along with three brothers: Joseph, Wilfred “Skeets” and Gerald Mousseau.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, from 2-8 p.m., with Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496 beginning at 6 p.m., then the Knights of Columbus Color Guard and a joint Parish Prayer Service and Knights of Columbus Presentation beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Ossineke, Michigan from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11 a.m. with Fr. Bob Bissot officiating.
