ERNEST G. BORG

Ernest G. Borg, age 88, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at Turning Brook Assisted Living.

On Dec. 12, 1930, Ernest was born to the late Reno and Hattie (Uchwat) Borg in Hamtramck, Michigan. He attended Henry Ford Trade High School, where he played Basketball, and took clarinet lessons and dance lessons, which showed in his professional dancing; later he attended the Henry Ford Community College. Ernest served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the 101st Infantry “Screaming Eagles” one of the most decorated branches of the service. He married June Malcom upon returning home from the service; she preceded him in death in 1982. He later met his beloved life partner Carole Lutes and Family. He worked for the Witlock Company, and owned Garfield Construction and Garfield Realty. Ernest was a member of the Cape Coral Elks, Alpena Eagles, the Moose Lodge of Alpena, Knights of Columbus of Garden City, and the Henry Ford trade school Alumni. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida, and summers in Alpena, along with traveling to several other parts of the world.

Ernest is survived by his loving companion of 30 years, Carole Lutes; one son Anthony J. Borg (Sandra Teresa Allen) of Cookville, Tennessee; five grandchildren: Mackenzie, Dustin, Chase, Wesley, and Destiny; one brother Richard Borg of Lake Orion, Michigan; one sister Cynthia (Paul) Sultana of Brighton, Michigan; Carole’s children: Allan (Ruth) Lutes of Brighton, Michigan; Craig (Julie) Lutes of Stevenson Ranch, California; her grandchildren: Robert, Rachael, Mia, and Zoe; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers Reno, Joseph, and Henry Borg.

Family and friends will gather for memorial visitation on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home from noon until the Memorial Service begins at 2 p.m. at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating, followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. 2496 at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan in memory of Ernest.
