JANE IDA SOMMERFELD

Jane Ida Sommerfeld, 81, formerly of Alpena, passed away May 5, 2019 in Lake City, Fla. She was born March 3,1938 to Lawrence and Ida Reed in Alpena, Mich. She married Myles Sommerfeld June 30, 1956, he preceded her in death Dec. 27, 2016.

She worked at Dick’s Discount Arcade and Alpena Savings Bank where she eventually retired and moved to Florida. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid and yearly German Pantry. She became a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lake City.

She was an avid bowler, sometimes bowling two to three times a week even after surviving breast cancer and a stroke. She also enjoyed bunco, quilting, making jewelry and kitchen towels, she also loved to read. She was a gentle, loving soul and everyone’s friend.

She is survived by her children, Theodore (Mary) Sommerfeld, Susan (Greg) Rouleau and Valerie (Skeeter) Urban. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, sisters Hazel (Lynn) Irwin, Margaret (Jim) Clemens, Alpena, Bonnie (Ron) Buchner, Lake City, Fla., and brothers, Laurence (Ella) Reed, Standish, Mich., and Jerry (Gailynn) Reed, Alpena.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Myles, son Jeffrey, grandchildren Lee Rouleau, Zachary Weinkauf, great-grandson, Levi Babcock, sister Marion Stallions and brother Jack Reed.

There will be a graveside service July 13, 2019 at 11a.m. at Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor John Shipton will officiate. Memorials can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Alpena.
