News obituary, birth announcement policy
The Alpena News does not accept any handwritten obituaries. Family members may submit typed obituaries, but must provide the name of the funeral home handling arrangements so that the death can be verified. Basic information without a photo can be printed at no cost, but longer obituaries with photos are printed with a cost. Obituaries are due by 8 p.m. to run in the next day’s paper.
To submit birth announcements, verification of the birth and of the parents must also be submitted. That information can be provided through hospital release forms that include parents’ signatures or copies of birth certificates.
