FERN M. WALLACE SCHULTZ

Fern M. Wallace Schultz, 89, of Alpena, passed away Oct. 29, 2018.

Fern was born Oct. 3, 1929 in Laurium/Calumet, Mich., to the late William and Dora (Bahrke) Wallace. She grew up in Alpena where she graduated from High School and went on to specialize as a surgical nurse at Alpena Regional Medical Center where she would eventually retire.

Fern was a phenomenal cook and loved to entertain family, friends, and coworkers, especially at her cottage on Long Lake. She enjoyed her many years of companionship with Carl Basel, her dear friend, whom she would share home cooked meals, playing cards with, and sharing each other’s families. Fern was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was an involved member of the Ladies Aid, serving as president for a term. She enjoyed participating as a member of the German American Club for many years. In later years, Fern was a frequent visitor at the Alpena Senior Citizens Center socializing, playing cards, dancing, and enjoying meals. During the last 18 months of her life, Fern lived with her wonderfully caring daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Dean. The two of them provided an increasingly more fragile Fern with the opportunity to live life to her fullest as they entertained her with experiences traveling from her home in Alpena to extended stays in their homes in Aurora, Colo., and Mesa, Ariz.

Fern is survived by her two children, Robert (Gayle) Schultz of Alpena, Jane (Dean) Corey of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren, Shelly (Jeff) Genschaw of Petoskey, Amy Schultz (Harry Guthrie) of Alpena, Trevor Schultz (Andrea Cogal) of Rochester, Minn.; seven great- grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home with Rev. Joshua Schultz officiating. Memorial donations can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be registered at www.mcwilliamsfh.com.
