WILLIAM R. BARBER

William R. Barber, age 71, of Alpena went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at home surrounded by his family and friends.

On May 5, 1947, William was born to the Charles and Helen (Norton) Barber in Northville, Mich. He attended the Walled Lake Schools. After graduation William served in the United States Navy from 1966-1970, during Vietnam, and on the USS Ajax, USS Astrubula, and USS Pichert. He married Judy (Saxton) LaRousa on May 12, 1984, in Waterford, Mich. William retired from Chrysler after 19 years and went on to be a general contractor then for the Alpena Postal Service retiring after 13 years in 2014. He was member of the Grace Episcopal Church and served on the Maple Ridge Board of Review for 20 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Judy; four children: Christina (Daren) Darge of Clarkston, Mich.; Kevin (Donya) LaRousa of Harrisburg, N.C.; William (Kirsten) Barber of Lake Orion, Mich.; Steven (Aimee) LaRousa of Shelby, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his one brother: Michael Barber of Spartanburg, S.C.; one sister: Ruthann Barber of Garden City, Mich.; one step-sister Jackie (William) Mosher of Lake City, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and his special family: Savanah, Michael, Dominic, and Logan.

William was preceded in death by his parents Charles Barber, Helen Miller, and his step-father Charles Miller.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. with Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496 beginning at 5 p.m. at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Grace Episcopal Church from 10 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11 a.m. with Fr. John Laycock officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Huron Humane Society in memory of William.
