JERRY DALE ERICKSON

Jerry Dale Erickson, 84, of Oscoda, Mich., passed away on Jan. 17, 2018. Jerry was born in Harrisville, Mich., to parents Siguard Erickson and Margaret Erickson nee Schmidt on Nov. 2, 1933. Jerry joined the Air Force in 1953 and served on many bases in Korea at the end of the Korean War. Jerry was one of the last Air Force Servicemen to be sent to Korea via ship. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He then enrolled in and graduated from Ferris State Technical School with a degree in accounting. Jerry met and married Donna Jean Erickson nee Sweet while in school. They had four children, Tony (Ellen), Wendy (Steve Griffith), Gail Bruhn (Ken), and Amy (Paul Odin). They are the proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren, Bill, Melissa Weaver, and Melanie Moore, Tim Griffith, Adam Salcedo, Jonna Salcedo, Betheny Bruhn, Jessica Bruhn, Ashleigh Boden, Ty Odin, and Kirsten Odin. Jerry and Donna are the proud great-grandparents of nine great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Gabe, Sofiya, Olivia, Amelia, Jaxon, Rowan, Anna, and Hobbes. Jerry and Donna lived in Oscoda for 50 years where he worked and retired for the Department of Defense as Deputy Accounting and Finance Officer. He volunteered and served in several positions for Northland Area Federal Credit Union, formerly Wurtsmith Federal Credit Union. Jerry started volunteering in 1967, and started as board a board member in 1968. Jerry retired from the board in 2015 and continued to serve as an Emeritus Board Member until his death. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing the most. Jerry has been preceded in death by his parents, sister Ellen Lavack, brother Carl Erickson, sister-in law Dorothy Erickson, and granddaughter Jonna Salcedo. Services for Jerry will be held at Buresh Funeral Home located at 212 W River Rd, Oscoda Township, MI 48750. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 10-11 a.m. with funeral services following directly after. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jerry Erickson Scholarship Fund at Northland Area Federal Credit Union or the Wounded Warriors Project.
