MARY ELIZABETH BOCK
Mary Elizabeth (Jess) Bock, age 74, died peacefully on Sept. 14, 2017, in Baton Rouge, LA. Mary was born April 16, 1943, in Pontiac, Mich., to John C. and Nettie (Adams) Jess. The family moved to Spruce, Mich., in 1954 and engaged in farming. Mary attended Alpena High School and graduated, with honors, in 1961. She graduated from Michigan State University, with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965. Years later, she attended Louisiana State University and received certification in the Special Education field. Her teaching career began in Novi, Mich., as a high school English instructor. She was also an accomplished pianist.
Mary married Jeffrey Bock, Midland, Mich., in Alpena, Mich. They moved to Baton Rouge, LA., where he worked at Dow Chemical and Mary continued in the education profession for 30 years. She is survived by one daughter, Lindsay Bock; six grandchildren, Aiden, Jasmine, Patsy, Charlotte, Jeffrey, Journey, all of Baton Rouge, LA.; one sister, Anne (Jess) Kukuk of Sandusky, Mich., plus many cousins.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; one brother, John W. Jess of Spruce, Mich., and one brother-in-law, Alvin Kukuk of Macomb County, Mich.
Arrangements are being handled by the Hacker Funeral Home, 1201 W. Sanilac Rd., Sandusky, MI 48471. A service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at Community of Christ Church, Sandusky, Mich.
