JOHN THOMAS MARCHLEWSKI

John Thomas Marchlewski, Sr., 79 of Alpena joined his Lord in Heaven on Friday, Aug, 25, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

John was born in Newberry on April 12, 1938 to the late Leo and Anne (Richey) Marchlewski. He graduated from Alpena Catholic Central and went on to sail in the Navel Reserves and on the Great Lakes for 12 years. On Dec. 27, 1958, he married Patricia Simpson. John retired from the City of Alpena after 25 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #485, Moose Lodge and the Alpena Golf Club. He served on the board of directors for the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame and was a foster parent for 31 years. John loved fishing and especially his golf.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years Pat; six children, Pat Harps, Linda (Rich) DiCesare, John “Jay” Marchlewski, Jr., Len (Lee Ann) Marchlewski, Tom (Laura) Marchlewski, Brad (Julie) Marchlewski; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Hoeth, Mary Thomson; brother, Larry Marchlewski; sister-in-law, Carol Marchlewski; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Marchlewski was preceded in death by son-in-law, Mark Harps; and brother, Leo Marchlewski, Jr.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. with military honors accorded him at 5 p.m. with Alpena VFW Post 2496. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honors from 6-8 p.m. with a parish prayer at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday at St. Mary Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating.
