CARMEN HALE
Carmen Hale, beloved wife and mother, passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas on Sept. 17, 2016, at age 86, after a brief illness with leukemia. Carmen was born on July 10, 1930, in Spain and resided in Madrid most of her early life. In 1958, she married Richard Darwin Hale, obtaining U.S. citizenship in 1965. Together, Carmen and Richard raised their family of five daughters in Alpena, Mich. After her husband’s early death in 1977, Carmen earned a BS in Social Work from Ferris State University in 1979. Following some of her children to Texas, Carmen first worked as a program director serving victims of family violence in the Woodlands. In 1987, Carmen began working as a case manager with the Harris County Hospital District serving chronically ill and disabled children until her retirement in 1997. In 1999, Carmen retired in the Corpus Christi community. An ardent Catholic devoted to her faith, she joined Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. For more than the last 15 years, Carmen received her sense of purpose and fulfillment serving in many church ministries until her illness prevented such service in recent months.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard; and three siblings who resided in Spain until their death. She is survived by her sister, Catalina, currently residing in Madrid; five daughters: Cristina Pulignani of Woodbridge Va.; Ruth Bergman Braun-Hugo of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Catherine Vos-Dennis of Neches, Texas ; Norma Wilson-Gregory of Alpena, Mich.; and Janice Denham-David of Kilgore Texas; as well as 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Carmen will rest in Alpena, Mich., next to her beloved husband Richard. She will be dearly missed.
A graveside memorial service for Carmen Hale will be held in Alpena, Mich., on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Washington Ave (M-32).
