MICHAEL SOBECK

Michael “Mike” Sobeck, 65, of Rogers City, passed away peacefully at his home Friday Dec. 12, 2014, after his courageous battle with cancer.

Mike was born in Rogers City on Oct. 25, 1949, to the late George and Cecelia (Kowalski). He graduated from Rogers City High School in 1968, and was inducted into the U.S. Army June 10, 1969, serving his country during the Vietnam War.

He worked at Calcite for 40 Years retiring in 2009 as a dozer operator. He was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 607, and The American Legion.

Surviving are two sons Michael (Jenny) of Gaylord, and Russell (Ashlee) of Rogers City; five sisters Marjorie (Ralph) Erickson, Joan (Chuck) Deffloff, Betsy (Rodney) Fleming, all of Rogers City, Judy Grulke of Flint, and Kari Sobeck of Rogers City; a brother John (Julie) Sobeck of Rogers City; four grandchildren Alysha, Adam, Taylor, and Kylah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Richard, George, and Fred; and a sister Delphine Yarch.

Visitation will be Monday Dec. 15, 2014, at Hentkowski Funeral Home from 3 until 8 p.m. With a Rosary Service at 6:45 p.m. The VFW Post 607 will have a military tribute following at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church until the 11 a.m. Funeral Mass with Reverend Sylvestre Obwaka Officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
