DEARBORN – Gas prices in Michigan are up 33 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.92 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is $1.07 more than this time last month and 74 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $59 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $8 from 2025’s highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 9.24 million b/d to 8.72 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 249.5 million barrels to 244 million. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.4 million barrels per day.

At the close of Friday’s formal trading session, WTI rose $2.18 to settle at $98.32 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories increased by 6.2 million barrels from the previous week. At 449.3 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 1% below the five-year average for this time of year.

“Pump prices across Michigan have jumped rapidly with drivers paying the highest prices since the summer of 2023,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group.

– Most expensive gas price averages: Ann Arbor and Marquette at $3.95.

– Least expensive gas price averages: Traverse City at $3.75

Ways to Save on Gasoline:

– Combine errands to limit driving time.

– Shop around for the best gas prices in your community.

– Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.

– Remove excess weight in your vehicle.

– Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.

– Enroll in savings programs. AAA Members who enroll in Shell’s Fuel Rewards program can save 30 cents per gallon on their first fill-up and 5 cents per gallon each additional trip to the pump.
