The Sanctuary presents: Remember the Carl D. Bradley in historical overview and film
Trending
On November 18, 1958, the Great Lakes freighter Carl D. Bradley met its tragic fate during a violent storm in northern Lake Michigan. Of the 35 crew members aboard, 23 men were from Rogers City. That fateful night, 33 of the crew lost their lives. This year marks the 68th anniversary of the sinking, making this special presentation an opportunity to remember the men who were lost and reflect on the lasting impact of the tragedy.
Join Erin Pilarski as she shares her family's personal connection to the Great Lakes and Carl D. Bradley. Her grandfather spent time sailing the Great Lakes with Bradley Transportation Company and narrowly missed being aboard the vessel for its final voyage. Erin will offer a short presentation on the ship’s history, the people connected to it, and the profound impact this tragedy had on the Rogers City community.
Following the presentation, stay for a special screening of November Requiem, a film that explores the sinking of Carl D. Bradley, the lives forever changed by the disaster, and the memories of those lost. Together, the presentation and film offer an opportunity to honor the crew, remember their stories, and reflect on a tragedy that remains an important part of Great Lakes history.
