ALPENA - The Salvation Army Advisory Board has chosen their fifth annual Red Kettle Chair. Major Prezza Morrison announced on Monday.
"We have chosen a wonderful woman who was a businesswoman who gave much to the community. Her business, the Olivet Christian Bookstore, was an important part of downtown. I am sure you now know that we have chosen Mary Rajasekhar as our 2026 Honorary Red Kettle Chair," Morrison said. "Mary is a great example of someone who loves and supports her community. Mary is a former advisory board member. She believes and supports the ministry of The Salvation Army, to meet human needs of all people in the community. We are honored to have her represent The Salvation Army this Christmas fundraising season."
Last year, The Salvation Army, later in January, reached their goal of $190,000. This year's goal will be announced at its Kettle Kick Off event which takes place on Nov.12 at Culligan Plaza at 5:30 p.m. Program and refreshments will take place. Last year, with the help of the community, The Salvation Army was able to serve 240 families, 536 children, 967 total people, with 240 food baskets and over 2,700 toys and books. "Without the community’s help this would not be possible." Morrison said.
The Salvation Army thanks the community of Alpena County for their continued support," she said "We can serve the numbers we serve because of the generosity of our neighbors. Your care is shown in your giving, and we are very grateful."
