MIDLAND – MyMichigan Health is alerting patients and community members about a phone scam involving individuals falsely identifying themselves as representatives of MyMichigan Health and requesting private or personal health information.
MyMichigan Health has received reports of calls in which individuals claim to be calling on behalf of the health system and ask patients to provide private information. These calls are not legitimate MyMichigan Health communications.
For appointment reminders and general inquiries initiated by MyMichigan Health, patients will not be asked to disclose private health information over the phone. MyMichigan Health only requests this type of information when a patient directly calls one of its offices or when information is obtained in person during a visit.
MyMichigan offers these reminders: Patients and community members are encouraged to never provide private health information or personal details to an unsolicited caller; do not rely on caller ID alone to verify a caller's identity, as phone numbers can be spoofed; hang up if a caller makes an unexpected request for private information, and contact MyMichigan Health directly using a verified phone number if there are questions about a call or an appointment.
MyMichigan Health reminds the community to remain vigilant and cautious when receiving unexpected phone calls requesting personal or health information.
