MACKINAC ISLAND ᠆ Mackinac Island’s Proposal 1 has passed by a wide margin tonight, empowering the City of Mackinac Island to protect residents, workers, and visitors when it comes to the rising costs of ferry service.
Local Act 1 was passed by an unofficial margin of 460-39 and will now be placed in the city charter once the election result is officially certified.
The Vote Yes on Local Act 1 campaign completed the mission started last summer when the state legislature and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made SB 304 law.
“We extend our thanks to Sen. Damoose, Rep. Fairbairn, Gov. Whitmer and all legislators who supported SB 304. The City of Mackinac Island is clearly empowered to protect ferry riders,” said Vote YESS spokesperson John Sellek.
