WASHINGTON DC – Congressman Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, was reelected to another two-year term on Tuesday and will continue to represent Michigan’s 1st Congressional District, according to the Associated Press.

Bergman defeated Democrat candidate Callie Barr, a Democrat from Traverse City.

Michigan’s 1st Congressional District covers the entire Upper Peninsula and much of the northern Lower Peninsula.

Bergman said although Republicans across the nation struggled to flip and retain seats, he intends to work with members of the Democrat majority because there is a lot that needs to be accomplished for the American people.

“I am honored that the people of Michigan's First District have once again placed their trust in me to represent them in Washington,” Bergman said in a text message. “While tonight was a tough night for Republicans, there is no shortage of work ahead of us to get our nation back on track. Americans are rightly frustrated with inflation, reckless government spending, and the direction of our nation. They deserve leaders who will listen, stand firm, and deliver results. The voters of this district have made one thing clear: Their trust cannot be bought, and their values are not for sale.”
