ALPENA – The Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District (AMA ESD) extends its sincere appreciation to voters, families, staff, and community members across
Alpena, Montmorency, and Alcona counties following the successful renewal of its special education millage in the Nov. 3 election.
Nearly 68% of voters supported the renewal, continuing a longstanding commitment to special education services that began with the millage’s initial approval in 1989.
“We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support demonstrated by our communities,”said Justin Gluesing, Superintendent of the AMA ESD. “This renewal reflects the value our communities place on ensuring that students with disabilities have access to meaningful educational opportunities, essential services, and the support they need to succeed. We are humbled by this vote of confidence and deeply appreciative of the trust our residents have placed in us.”
The renewed millage will continue to support specialized educational programs at Pied Piper School, along with a wide range of special education services delivered in partnership with Alpena Public Schools, Alcona Community Schools, Atlanta Community Schools, and Hillman Community Schools. These resources help provide critical educational programming, specialized instruction, and related services that directly benefit students and families throughout the
three-county region.
Gluesing also recognized the collective efforts of staff, families, community organizations, and local leaders who helped educate residents about the renewal.
“I want to personally thank our dedicated AMA ESD staff and our colleagues in each of our four local school districts for their commitment to students and families,” Gluesing said. “I am equally grateful to the many parents, community members, organizations, and local leaders who took time to learn about the renewal, share information, and engage in meaningful conversations. The strong partnerships we have across our region are what make our work possible.”
While celebrating the successful renewal, the AMA ESD also recognizes the responsibility that comes with the community’s continued financial support.
“We recognize that our community’s investment in special education comes with a tremendous responsibility, and we do not take that trust for granted,” Gluesing added. “We remain committed to being responsible stewards of these resources, strengthening our partnerships with local school districts, and ensuring that our students and families continue to receive the services and support they deserve.”
The AMA ESD looks forward to continuing its collaborative work with local districts, families, and community partners to provide high-quality special education programs and services throughout the region.
