HARRISVILLE -- Sabrina Horton, 23, was bound over on a charge of possession of methamphetamine after waiving her preliminary examination on Wednesday in the 81st District Court in Alcona.

She was arrested for possession of methamphetamine on Sept. 18. Horton was found in possession of the suspected drug while out on bond prior to being sentenced for charges of accessory after the fact to a felony and using a computer to commit a crime.

Horton was sentenced to 12 months in jail for those two charges on Oct. 6 and is currently serving that jail sentence.

The accessory and computer charges are related to a first degree child abuse case involving Nickolas Corey, 24. He was sentenced to 70 months to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of first degree child abuse.

Horton had texted Corey to make sure they were telling the same story while law enforcement were actively investigating the child abuse incident, which occurred on May 23, 2025. Horton and Corey were formerly in a relationship and had two children at the time.

In a bond violation hearing for the methamphetamine charge on Sept. 30, Horton was put on house arrest and required drug testing until she was sentenced the following week.

It was alleged at the bond violation hearing that Horton was living in a residence with two known felons, according to Judge Laura Frawley.

After testimony by Alcona County Sheriff Deputy Andrew Wright, Frawley said she was not satisfied with the evidence provided that Horton was residing with the two felons.

At Wednesday's hearing, Horton agreed to waive her preliminary examination of the methamphetamine charge and her case was bound over to the 23rd Circuit Court in Alcona.

Preliminary examinations take place to see if there is probable cause that a felony crime occurred and that the defendant committed the crime. If probable cause is found, the case is bound over to Circuit Court where it can then go to jury trial.

When a preliminary examination is waived, the case is automatically bound over to circuit court.

Horton's next hearing will be a pre-trial at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 in the 23rd Circuit Court in Alcona.
