I wanted to take a few minutes to give you an update on some of the work I’ve been doing while traveling across Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. There’s nothing better than being back home, visiting with old friends, making new ones, and hearing directly from the hardworking people who make Michigan’s First District such a special place to live, work, and raise a family.
From celebrating our hardworking men and women in Ontonagon on Labor Day to recognizing our agricultural heritage at the Posen Potato Festival, the First District is filled with great people, strong communities, and traditions that make Northern Michigan and the U.P. such a special place to call home.
Back in Washington, I had the privilege of welcoming another group of U.P. Honor Flight Veterans at the Iwo Jima Memorial. As a Marine who served our Nation for 40 years, these moments are especially meaningful to me. Our Veterans put service above self, and we can never fully repay the debt we owe them. Making sure they receive the recognition, respect, and benefits they’ve earned will always be one of my highest priorities.
I joined the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners for their annual picnic in Channing, where we discussed the importance of defending our Second Amendment rights. In Menominee, I visited American Legion Post 146 to recognize Post Commander Gary Gladue for his dedicated service to his fellow Veterans and the community.
In Gaylord, I met with members of VFW Post 1518 to discuss membership and the challenges facing Veterans organizations. I also enjoyed joining local Veterans for their monthly coffee and breakfast at the Gaylord Regional Airport.
In Germfask, I visited the Seney National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center to learn more about the conservation efforts underway in our region. We are blessed to live in a district with some of the most beautiful natural resources in America. From our forests and waterways to our hunting, fishing, and outdoor traditions, these resources are part of who we are. We have a responsibility to be good stewards of what God has given us while ensuring future generations can enjoy the same opportunities and freedoms.
As always, if there’s anything my office or I can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to serve you.
