ALPENA -- A Texas Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 149th Fighter Wing, JBSA-Lackland, Texas, crashed during a routine training mission from the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center on Thursday near Traverse City, according to a U.S. Department of War press release.
The pilot successfully ejected from the aircraft. The incident is under investigation, according to the release.
Alpena Public Schools announced they were canceling the flyover for Friday's Valor Game as a result of the incident.
"Our thoughts are with the 149th Fighter Wing pilot and their team," Lee Fitzpatrick, APS director of communications, said via email.
